Abstract
Being on the wrong track can be very expensive and time-consuming. For digital projects, this means that it can be amazingly expensive to do the wrong things or follow the wrong requirements. Agile approaches aim to identify early if a requirement was met or not. However, in many projects is still lots of room for improvement to generate quality requirements. Even the ideas that are the base for the requirements are often not well developed.
This chapter discusses such kind of issues and proposes some measures that might help to improve the process of idea generation and requirements engineering. It proposes an approach with an initial idea generation phase adopting the Design Thinking methodology for agile developments and digital innovations along with other supporting tools and techniques. It suggests to implement a structured approach for idea generation in the organisation and discusses some elements and success criteria for such an approach.
